Lois Hass

Lois Elizabeth Robins Hass, age 96, passed away December 10, 2012. She was born September 14, 1916, in Roby, TX, the third of five children raised by her parents, Ida Edith (Gosnell) and Charles Thomas Robins. They lived in several small farming communities in TX, OK and AR before settling in Foyil, OK in 1923. Lois graduated from Foyil High School, earning the American Legion Award given for courage, honor, leadership, patriotism, scholarship and service. She participated in 4-H, earning the title of 4-H Canning Champion for Rogers County, and winning a trip to St. Louis in 1933. After graduation, she acquired her beautician's license in Claremore, OK and moved to Bartlesville, OK where she worked in two beauty salons before going to work as a typist at Phillips Petroleum Company. She met the love of her life, Arthur Edward Hass, in 1941 and they married on October 6, 1942 in the First Methodist Church in Bartlesville. They were stationed at Ft. Sill in Lawton, OK and Camp Bowie in Brownwood, TX, before Art went overseas to serve in Patton's Third Army. During the 15 months he was gone, they wrote over 850 letters to each other detailing events in their lives and their love for each other. Upon Art's return from the ETO, they returned to Bartlesville to live and raise their children. Lois became a beauty consultant for the Luzier Company during this time. In 1962 they moved to Atlanta, GA, and the following year to Chattanooga, TN, as Art left Cities Service Oil Company to work for Colonial Pipeline Company. In 1971 they moved to Hattiesburg, MS, and retired to Hot Springs Village, AR in 1977. Lois made many friends in all the places she lived. She read voraciously, and began keeping a list of the books she finished after they moved to Hot Springs Village. Macular degeneration took its toll on her ability to see small print in her later years, but not before she logged nearly 3000 books on her reading list. She was one of the founders of the Village Card Club, and attained Life Master Status in 1989. If she wasn't reading or playing bridge, she was enjoying cooking great meals or baking pies for her friends and family. She was a member of the Village United Methodist Church and a founding member of Christ of the Hills Methodist Church. Family, flowers, angels, books, bridge, bingo, and skip-bo were all among her favorite things in life. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Art, three brothers – Murriel Gosnell Robins, Charles Thomas (June) Robins Jr., and Richard Dean Robins, and her sister Emily Ruth Robins Barfoot. She is survived by her children, Arthur Edward (Ed) Hass, Jr. and his wife Karen of Reston, VA, Ave Joy Hass Stefan and her husband Robert (Bob) of Hot Springs Village, AR, four granddaughters: Michelle Darlene Blanton (Brett) of McLean, VA, Melissa Renee Sheehan (Robert) of Oak Hill, VA, Joanna Rachel Perkins (Adam) of Portland, OR, and Kendra Diane Corbett (Jon) of Berwyn, PA, seven great-grandchildren: Alexis Grace Blanton, Reilly Aine Blanton, Kiran Marie Blanton, Caiden Stefan Sheehan, Jackson Edward Corbett, Keillor Robert Sheehan and Hayley Elizabeth Corbett; one cousin and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held on Friday December 14, 2012 at 1:00 pm at Christ of the Hills United Methodist Church with Dr. Walter Smith officiating, Visitation will be from 12pm to 1pm at the chirch with burial at CedarVale Cemetery in Hot Springs Village directly following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ of the Hills Methodist Church, the Village Card Club, the Susan G. Komen Foundation, or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
